Overview

Diaspora Healthcare Exchange is a platform we designed and built for families living abroad who fund medical cover for parents and relatives at home. It compares plans side by side in plain language, captures household detail once, and keeps every policy, document, and renewal date in one shared record both sides of the family can see.

Challenge

Families abroad were buying medical cover blind: plan documents in PDFs, terms they could not compare across providers, and no visibility of what a relative was actually covered for. Renewals lapsed unnoticed across time zones, advisors spent the first hour of every call reconstructing existing cover, and paperwork lived in WhatsApp threads.

Solution

  1. 01

Built a normalised plan model so cover from different providers can be compared on the same terms.

  2. 02

Designed a guided intake that avoids insurance jargon while capturing the detail underwriters need.

  3. 03

Delivered a shared household record with encrypted document storage and role-based access for family members and advisors.

  4. 04

Automated renewal and review reminders tied to policy anniversaries, across time zones.

Engineering notes

  • Plan normalisation and coverage gap analysis engine
  • Encrypted household document store with access logging
  • Scheduled review and renewal notifications

Business impact

  • Families compare plans on equal terms instead of reading provider PDFs.
  • Renewals are actioned on schedule rather than discovered after a lapse.
  • Advisors start conversations with the facts already assembled.
